No. 9 Rebels Finish 10th At Nicklaus Invitational

DUBLIN, Ohio (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 9 UNLV men's golf team shot a second- and final-round 25-over-par 313 on Tuesday and finished in 10th place at the 2012 Jack Nicklaus Invitational, which was played at Muirfield Village Golf Club (par 72, 7,352 yards).
There were 36 holes scheduled for Monday, but because of a lengthy frost delay only 18 holes were played, and Tuesday's 18-hole round concluded the event.
Kent State shot 14-over 302 on Tuesday to capture a three-shot tournament victory at 29-over 605. Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt both tied for second at 32-over. Kentucky was fourth at 33-over, followed by UCF in fifth at 41-over. The Rebels finished the tournament at 48-over 624.
UCF's Greg Eason recorded a six-shot win at 4-under 140 after shooting a second-straight round of 2-under 70. UNLV freshman AJ McInerney and Purdue's Adam Schenk tied for second at 2-over 146. McInerney shot a second-straight 1-over 73, while Schenk was 1-under 71 on Tuesday.
UNLV senior Kevin Penner tied for ninth at 6-over 150 (75), marking his second top-10 individual finish in as many tournaments this season. UNLV junior Blake Biddle placed 52nd at 20-over 164 (81), freshman Zane Thomas tied for 53rd at 21-over 165 (84) and junior Nicholas Maruri tied for 56th at 26-over 170 (88).
The tournament featured 11 teams and 60 individuals. The Rebels will be back in action Oct. 15-16, at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
