No. 11 Rebels Fourth After Day One In Ala.

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. ( - The No. 11 UNLV men's golf team is in fourth place after the first day at the 12-team Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which was played at Old Overton Golf Club (par 70, 7,204 yards) on Monday. Nine teams were unable to finish the second round of play because of darkness after the start of the first round was delayed because of fog earlier in the day.

UNLV shot 10-over 290 during the first round and finished the day with a total of 14-over, with players through holes No. 12-15 when play was suspended. When darkness fell, Florida held the team lead at 8-over. The Gators were 2-over 282 during the first round. Alabama is second at 10-over after an 8-over first round, Clemson is third at 11-over after a 13-over first round, and Auburn is fifth at 18-over, after a 16-over first round. The top five teams were all still on the course when play was suspended.

Individually, Auburn's Michael Johnson leads the tournament by three shots at 4-under through 15 holes in the second round. He was 2-under 68 during the first round. UNLV junior Blake Biddle is in a four-way tie for second at 1-under. He is through 15 holes in the second round and shot even-par 70 during the first round. Rebel freshman AJ McInerney is also in the top-10 as he is 1-over through 12 holes in the second round. He shot 1-under 69 during the first round and is currently tied for seventh.

Other UNLV players: senior Kevin Penner is tied for 16th at 6-over through 12 holes in the second round after a 6-over 76 during the first round, sophomore Carl Jonson is tied for 25th at 8-over through 12 holes in the second round after a 5-over 75 during the first round, and sophomore Kurt Kitayama is tied for 45th at 13-over through 15 holes in the second round after a 9-over 79 during the first round. There are a total of 60 individuals.

The conclusion of the second round will be played on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT, with the third and final round scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available courtesy of Golfstat through a link at
