Green Earns MW Men's Golfer of the Week Award
Feb. 27, 2013
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Another tournament, another award for the University of New Mexico men’s golf team.
The Mountain West on Wednesday named Lobo sophomore Gavin Green as its Men’s Golfer of the Week. Green earned his third top-five finish of the 2012-13 season with his 1-over-par 217 (68-76-73) at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai’i from Feb. 20-22.
Green (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) tied for fifth and led the Lobos, who are No. 5 in both the Golfweek.com/Sagarin and Golfstat.com national polls, to a runner-up finish behind top-ranked California at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
Green, who currently ranks fourth in the MW in scoring with an average of 72.1 strokes per round, has moved up to No. 35 nationally on Golfweek.com’s individual rankings.
The Lobos have back-to-back Men’s Golfer of the Week honors in the spring; senior James Erkenbeck won the award for his performance at the Arizona Intercollegiate, a third-place tie, on Jan. 28-29.
Erkenbeck also won the MW Golfer of the Month Award in October, before the conference changed the recognition to a weekly award.
