UNM Golfers Perez, Erkenbeck Both on Palmer Cup Ranking List

Palmer Cup Ranking Release

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – University of New Mexico men’s golfers Victor Perez and James Erkenbeck are included on the initial Palmer Cup Ranking of the spring season released Thursday.

The Palmer Cup is an international collegiate event between the United States and Europe that follows a Ryder Cup-style format.

The top six golfers in the final ranking from both the United States and Europe shall be among the 10 individuals selected to compete in the 2013 Palmer Cup at Wilmington Country Club from June 7-9. The six participants from each team will be announced April 17, and the rest of the players from both sides will be named the following week.

Perez, a sophomore from Semeac, France, is the No. 9-ranked player for Team Europe. He is currently averaging 72.33 strokes per round.  Erkenbeck, a senior from San Diego, is No. 13 on the Team USA list. He has a 71.76 stokes-per-round average.

New Palmer Cup Ranking lists will be released on March 6, March 20 and April 3.

The Lobo men’s golf team, ranked fifth in the nation in both the Golfweek.com/Sagarin and Golfstat.com latest polls , returns to action March 8-10 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, Nev.
