March 22, 2013
In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, University of New Mexico golfer Gavin Green shot a 4-under 68 Friday and is currently tied for 26th in the rain-delayed Maybank Malaysian Open.
Just more than half the golfers in the 155-player event on the European Tour either had not completed or not yet started their second round. First-round leader Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand played nine holes on Friday. He's 3-under for the round and 10 under for the event and has a one-stroke lead over South African and 2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel and China A Shun Wu.
Green, who among half the golfers unable to complete Thursday's round because of rain, finished that round Friday morning and sat in a tie for 77th place with a 1-over 73. He is 3 under through 36 holes and seven shots off the lead.
Other notable scores include: 1999 British Open champion Peter Lawrie is tied for 10th at 5 under through three holes of the second round; three-time Majors champion Padraig Harrington is tied for 20th at 4-under through six holes; and former No. 1 and current No. 3 player in the world Luke Donald is tied for 60th at even par through seven holes.
The tournament runs through Sunday, with the cut scheduled after the second round comes to a close.
