March 28, 2012

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team moved into the national top-10 rankings, which were released Wednesday by Golfstat.com. The Aztecs jumped from 12th into ninth place, while senior J.J. Spaun is currently the 10th-ranked golfer in the nation.

SDSU has won each of its last four tournaments, including the North Ranch Intercollegiate, the Farms Invitational, the National Invitational Tournament and most recently, the Barona Collegiate Cup. The Aztecs have boasted the first-place finisher at all four events with the final three individual titles captured by Spaun, who currently leads the Mountain West with a 70.63 season stroke average.

San Diego State's four tournament titles this year tie for fourth nationally, behind only No. 1 Texas, No. 2 UNLV and No. 10 Arkansas, which have all won five times. The Aztecs are 13th nationally by Golfweek/Sagarin, while Spaun is ranked No. 15 by that publication with an overall record of 565-95-13 (as of March 25).

The team heads to the Bay Area Wednesday evening to prepare for the 2012 U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford, March 30-April 1.
