No. 4 Rebels In Utah This Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 4 UNLV men's golf team is in Provo, Utah, for the PING Cougar Classic, which will be played at Riverside Country Club, Friday-Saturday, April 27-28.

The eight-team tournament will consist of 36 holes played on Friday and a final round of 18 holes taking place on Saturday. Play will begin at 8 a.m. MT each day. The field includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Southern Utah, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming.

In the lineup this week for the Rebels will be senior Derek Ernst, junior Kevin Penner, sophomore Blake Biddle and freshmen Carl Jonson and Kurt Kitayama. Junior Arthur Kim will play as an individual.

Last year's Cougar Classic had a field of 18 teams and was won by Colorado State at 17-under. UNLV finished second at the event, 14 shots back at 3-under. BYU's Zac Blair won the individual title by a shot at 11-under.

UNLV was led individually last year by Penner, Biddle and Ernst, who all finished in the top nine. Penner tied for fourth at 8-under, while Biddle was seventh at 6-under and Ernst was ninth at 4-under.

In its last outing, UNLV finished fourth at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on April 7. Ernst won medalist honors at the event, marking his fifth top-five finish of the year and first individual title. As a team, UNLV has won five of its nine tournaments this season and has finished second twice.
