Four Lobo Men's Golfers Earn PING All-West Region Honors

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Four University of New Mexico golfers have earned Division I PING All-West Region Team honors, the Golf Coaches Association of American announced Tuesday.
Seniors James Erkenbeck and John Catlin, and sophomores Gavin Green and Victor Perez were among the 28 players selected to the All-West team. A total of 155 golfers across six regions were recognized.
Erkenbeck is the Mountain West Player of the Year and the No. 13-ranked collegiate golfer, according to the Golfweek.com/Sagarin poll. He won the NCAA Columbus Regional individual championship from May 16-18 and averaged 71.21 strokes per round entering the NCAA Championship. Erkenbeck also will represent the U.S. in the Palmer Cup, an event pitting the top American-born U.S. collegians against the top European-born U.S. collegians next month.
Catlin is an All-Mountain West honoree who had five top-10 finishes in 14 events during the 2012-13 season. He tied for ninth at the NCAA Columbus Regional after finishing sixth in the MW Championship from May 3-5.
Green also earned All-MW honors and had six top-10 results in 13 tournaments this season. He won the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in September and tied for 22nd in the European Tour's Malaysian Open in March, finishing as the top amateur in the field.
Perez also was named to the All-MW team with a best finish of a third-place tie at the Don Puckette National Invitational Tournament in March. He was the No. 15 European-born U.S. collegian, just missing out on qualifying for the Palmer Cup.
