Millican Named a Finalist for Men's Golf National Coach of the Year Award
May 30, 2013
ALPHARETTA, Ga. - University of New Mexico men's golf coach Glen Millican is one of six semifinalists for the Dave Williams Award, which honors the national coach of the year in Division I, the Golf Coaches Association of America has announced.
Millican has guided the Lobos to five tournament wins this season for the first time since the 2004-2005 season. UNM won the Mountain West Championship and an NCAA Regional for the first time in school history.
In his 12th year at New Mexico, Millican has guided his program to five MW titles. He earned MW Coach of the Year honors earlier this month, his third conference award.
The Lobos have won 22 tournaments under Millican and are currently competing at the NCAA Championship here at the Capital City Club.
The team is currently ranked No. 5 by Golfweek.com and was as high as No. 3 earlier this season.
The other finalists are Steve Desimone of California, UCLA's Derek Freeman, Mark Leroux of Missouri, Herb Page of Kent State and Alabama's Jay Seawell. If a team wins the NCAA Championship and its coach was not previously named a finalist for the Dave Williams Award, that coach will be added for coach of the year consideration.
