Green Joins Erkenbeck on PING All-America Golf Teams

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico sophomore golfer Gavin Green on Thursday earned third-team PING All-America honors, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced.

Green was the No. 34 collegiate player in the country during the 2012-13 season, according to He had 10 top-20 finishes and six top-10 finishes in 14 tournaments.

The native of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia won the 2012 William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the UNM Championship Course in September with a 7-under 209. He hit a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to capture the event.

Green also had the best finish among the Lobo golfers at the NCAA Championship stroke play portion in Alpharetta, Ga., finishing 26th among the 156 players with a 1-under 209. He also won his head-to-head competition during UNM's match-play quarterfinal against eventual national champion Alabama.

Playing at the Maybank Malaysia Open, a European Tour event, in March, Green was the top amateur at the tournament, tying for 22nd place with a 6-under 210.

Earlier this month, Lobo senior James Erkenbeck earned first-team PING All-America honors. It's the first time since 1996 that the UNM men's golf team had multiple golfers named to the All-America teams (Rob McMillan and Mike Sauer both were second-team All-America selections that year).
