June 21, 2012
University of New Mexico junior golfer John Catlin earned honorable mention Division I PING All-America honors for the 2011-12 season, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Monday.
The Carmichael, Calif., native had a 72.07 stroke average over 42 rounds to tie for ninth in the Mountain West. Catlin earned All-MW honors this past season – the second all-conference honor of his career – won the PING Arizona Intercollegiate in January for his first career college victory and had 12 top-20 finishes during 2011-12.
That included eight top-10s and four top-fives.
Catlin is the first Lobo named to the PING All-America team since Steve Saunders earned third-team honors in 2008-09. Catlin is the eighth UNM player to garner All-America recognition during coach Glen Millican’s 11-year tenure.
