Air Force's Kyle Westmoreland Qualifies for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
July 5, 2012
Air Force golfer Kyle Westmoreland has qualified for the prestigious U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah, scheduled for July 9-14. Westmoreland, a rising junior at the Academy, tied for medalist honors at a sectional tournament held last month at Twin Peaks Golf Course in Longmont, Colo.
"We are excited and proud that Kyle will be representing the Academy at a national USGA event," said Air Force head coach George Koury. "The national exposure will be a great experience for him and give him some good confidence heading into next season."
Westmoreland, a native of Katy, Texas, shot a two-round total of 1-under par 139 at the sectional qualifier to tie with Kirby Pettitt of Colorado State University. Westmoreland is the second Falcon golfer in the last three years to qualify for the U.S. Pub Links as Tom Whitney advanced to the second round of the match-play tournament in 2009.
