Former Lobo Beljan Finishes Third at Greenbriar Classic

July 8, 2012

Former University of New Mexico golfer Charlie Beljan played the best tournament of his young PGA career at the Greenbriar Classic in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

Beljan, who played from 2003-04 to 2006-07, fired a 14-under 266 for a third-place finish behind Ted Potter Jr. and Troy Kelly. Both shot 16 under for the tournament and Potter won the event on the third playoff hole.

The ex-Lobo had one of the shots of the day on Sunday, holing in a 58-foot chip shot from the opposite side of the cart path on hole No. 13. Watch the chip shot here (scroll down to the video).

Beljan, a Mesa, Ariz., native, fired a career-low 62 during Friday's second round to grab a share of the lead in the tournament in which both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson failed to make the cut. Beljan finished 70-62-67-67 to earn $353,800.

Beljan was a second-team All-America for UNM in 2007 and was part of three consecutive Mountain West championship teams (2004-06).
