ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico men’s golf program has earned All-Academic Team honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), presented by Farmers Insurance. It’s the third consecutive season the Lobos have been honored.

A total of 124 Division I teams were honored by the GCAA. To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team award, a university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official roster for the academic year, and the team must keep a 3.0 GPA for the entire season. A total of 124 Division I teams were honored.

“I am proud of the effort our team puts into their studies each season, and it great to see us be recognized for continuing that performance through the 2011-2012 season,” UNM coach Glen Millican said. “It was a year of great golf while our players also maintained wonderful GPAs.  Our guys are very good students and I enjoy seeing them be recognized nationally as one of the top performing programs in the classroom, as well as on the course. This is another example of how our student-athletes do a great job of representing our team, UNM and our community with very high standards.”

The GCAA named junior John Catlin, a Management major, as a 2012 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar last month. Catlin, Ben Bauch, Gavin Green and Victor Perez were spring All-Academic Mountain West selections. Bauch, Catlin, Ryan Gay, James Gehrke, and Sam Saunders were 2011-12 Scholar-Athlete Award winners.
