Aug. 29, 2012
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team is ranked 13th in the nation in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division I College Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released Wednesday. The poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
UNLV will begin its fall season on Sept. 9, at the Gene Miranda Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Alabama, last year's NCAA runner-up, will begin the year as the nation's top-ranked team as it earned 13 of the 23 available first-place votes. Defending NCAA champion Texas, with eight first-place votes, claimed the No. 2 spot in the rankings. Pac-12 champion California, a NCAA semifinalist this past season, is No. 3 with one first-place vote, while UCLA is No. 4 and Washington rounds out the top five. Both UCLA and Washington made the Elite 8 last year at the NCAA Championship. The Huskies were the only other school with a first-place vote.
Auburn is No. 6 in the rankings, followed by Georgia Tech, Arkansas, USC and Texas A&M. Stanford is No. 11, followed by Florida, the Rebels, Oregon and North Florida.
