No. 13 Men's Golf To Open Season On Sunday

LAS VEGAS ( - The No. 13 UNLV men's golf team will open its 2012-13 season on Sunday, Sept. 9, as it will compete at the 44th Annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The two-day tournament, which is being hosted by Air Force, will be played at the Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course (par 72, 7,363 yards) in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will consist of 36 holes (two rounds) on Sunday starting at 8:15 a.m. MT in a shotgun format, and 18 on Monday, also starting at 8:15 a.m. MT.

The 17-team field for the Falcon Invitational includes Air Force, Air Force JV, Coastal Carolina, Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, Southern Utah, UCCS, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State and Wyoming.

UNLV is the defending team champion at the Falcon Invitational, winning the 2011 event in a one-hole playoff. The Rebels and Colorado had scores of 844 (-20) after 54 holes. UNLV's Kevin Penner and Ball State's T.J. Carpenter tied for medalist honors, each shooting a seven-under par total of 209.

UNLV is entering its 26th season under head coach Dwaine Knight and the squad returns six letterwinners from last season. UNLV has played in a NCAA-record 24-straight NCAA Regionals.
