Men's Golf Ranked No. 17 in Golf World/Nike Golf Poll

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's golf team enters the 2012-13 campaign ranked No. 17 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division I preseason men's coaches' poll. The Aztecs earned 211 points after reaching the NCAA quarterfinals last season.

San Diego State is one of two Mountain West schools in the preseason poll. UNLV opens the campaign ranked No. 13.

SDSU, which won five tournaments in 2011-12, enters the year as the back-to-back Mountain West champions. After capturing their second straight league title, the Aztecs posted a runner-up effort at the NCAA Regionals at Stanford and moved on to the NCAA Championship.

While at nationals, San Diego State finished in a tie for fourth place to earn a spot in match play where they would face California in the Elite 8. In the end, the Aztecs were edged, 3-2, in a heartbreaker.

Tom Berry is the team's top returning player for SDSU. The junior played in 13 events, finished third in stroke average (72.69) and posted one top-5 effort, three top-10 finishes and seven top-20 performances.
