No. 11 Rebels Look To Finish Fall Season Strong

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 11 UNLV men's golf team will close out its fall season this week in Las Cruces, N.M., at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. The tournament will be held Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 22-23, at New Mexico State University Golf Course (par 72, 7,014 yards).

The 12-team field includes Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, host New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Oral Roberts, Texas State, UNLV, UTEP, UTSA, Western New Mexico and Wichita State,

The 54-hole stroke-play event will consist of 36 holes (first and second rounds) on Monday and 18 holes (final round) on Tuesday. Play both days will begin with an 8 a.m. MT shotgun start.

Competing for UNLV's team will be junior Blake Biddle, sophomore Carl Jonson, freshman AJ McInerney, junior Nicholas Maruri and senior Kevin Penner. Sophomore Kurt Kitayama and freshman Zane Thomas will be playing as individuals.

UNLV is the defending team champion at the Wimberly Intercollegiate, as the Rebels won last year's event by eight shots at 34-under 818. Maruri was UNLV's top finisher with a third-place showing at 11-under 202, three shots back of Wichita State's Hunter Sparks, who earned medalist honors.

No live stats will be available for this tournament, but results will be distributed and posted to UNLVRebels.com after each day of competition.

This will be UNLV's fifth and final tournament of the fall. The Rebels have recorded top-four finishes in three events this season.
