UNLV's Biddle Earns Second Career Individual Win

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The No. 11 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round even-par 284 on Tuesday to finish second at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, which was played at New Mexico State University Golf Course (par 71, 7,074 yards).
UNLV junior Blake Biddle shot a final-round 2-under 69 to tie for first place with Kansas' Chris Gilbert at 8-under 205 for the tournament, giving Biddle his first individual victory of the season and second of his career. Biddle won his first career tournament at last spring's Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas.
Wichita State shot a final-round 8-under 276 to capture the Wimberly team title at 11-under 841, nine shots ahead of the Rebels, who recorded their fourth top-four finish in five total events during the fall season, which concluded with this tournament. This was also UNLV's second second-place finish this year.
UTEP finished third at 1-under, Texas State was fourth at 1-over, while Kansas rounded out the top five at 7-over.
UNLV senior Kevin Penner placed fourth at 5-under 208 after a final-round 69, giving him his second top-four finish of the year and fourth top-10 (in four total events this year).
The tournament had 12 teams and 75 individuals.
Other Rebel scores: sophomore Kurt Kitayama, playing as an individual, tied for 15th at 1-over 214 after a final-round 69, sophomore Carl Jonson tied for 22nd at 3-over 216 after a final-round 73, freshman Zane Thomas tied for 41st at 8-over 221 after a final-round 73, and junior Nicholas Maruri tied for 62nd at 14-over 227 after a final-round 78.
UNLV will begin its spring season on Feb. 20, at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawai`i.
