Penner Tied For Lead At All-American

EL PASO, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - After 36 holes of the 2012 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic at El Paso Country Club, UNLV's Kevin Penner and defending champion Cory Whitsett are both tied for first at 11-under par.

The pair are three shots ahead of the field, which includes 23 of some of the best college golfers in the nation. Penner shot a first-round 65 and a second-round 66 on the par-71, 6,817-yard layout Monday for a 36-hole total of 131, while Whitsett shot 66-65. Texas A&M's Cameron Peck, California's Max Homa and Kent State's Corey Conners are all tied for third at 8-under 134.

Over the first two rounds, Penner recorded 11 birdies and 25 pars. He was 1-under on par 3s, 7-under on par 4s and 3-under on par 5s.

The tournament's final round will begin at 8 a.m. MT on Tuesday
