Lobos Depth Shown Against New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M.—The Lobos depth was truly shown against New Mexico State in the Rio Grande Rivalry held in Las Cruces, N.M. UNM was able to defeat New Mexico State in a blowout score of 7-0, even with a last minute change in the lineup resulting in Phil Anderson being taken out.

In doubles, Conor Berg and Ben Dunbar played the number one spot defeating Stakne/Ramirez with a score of 8-5.

In the number two doubles, Jadon Phillips and Mads Hegelund fell to Westgate/Frattini with a score of 8-5.

Carl Ho and James Hignett played in the number three position taking on Degardin/Cabrita defeating them with a score of 8-5.

The Lobos finish doubles in the lead with the dual match score 1-0. The Lobos carried over the momentum from doubles into singles winning all six matches.

In the number one spot, Jadon Phillips defeated Matej Stakne only dropping two games finishing the match 6-2, 6-0.

Ben Dunbar defeated Marc Westgate in the number two position giving up three games winning the match 6-2, 6-1.

Samir Iftikhar played number three singles not losing a single game against Germain Degardin beating him with a score of 6-0, 6-0.

Conor Berg won the first set uncontested against Luis Ramirez in the number four position with a score of 6-0. Ramirez was not going down so easily in the second set gaining 5 games, but Conor Berg finished him off winning the final match 6-0, 7-5.

In the number five spot, Carl Ho had a fight to the finish against Felipe Frattini. It was close throughout the entire match with Carl Ho dropping the first set 4-6. He came back winning the second set in a close set with the score of 7-5. The third set was close, but not close enough with Carl Ho finishing the match with a final score of 4-6, 7-5, 10-4.

Mitch McDaniels competed against Eduardo Cabrita in the number six singles. He won the match 6-3, 6-2.

“I am proud of these guys today and all of UNM should be proud,” Head Coach Alan Dils said. “It was a great team effort.”

The Lobos next match will be at home where they will take on South Alabama on February 12 at 11 a.m.
