Lobos Topped by #69 Miami 5-2

LUBBOCK, TEXAS—The Lobos were bested by the #69 Miami Hurricanes after they topped UNM 5-2 at the McLeod Tennis Center. The Lobos secured the doubles point but the Canes rallied back to win five out of six singles points, putting the Lobos at 5-7 overall.

The Lobos started the doubles portion off right by winning the doubles point.

At number one doubles, the duo of Andrew Van Der Vyver and Conor Berg defeated the partnership of Wilfredo Gonzalez and Marco Stancati with a score of 8-5.

At number three doubles, the team of James Hignett and Mads Hegelund battled it out against the pair of Diego Soto and Henrique Tsukamoto. The two were close in competition but UNM came out on top to win the match 8-6.

The Lobos secured the doubles point and felt that momentum was on their side. Miami was already looking to change the tides in their favor as they prepared for the singles section of the match.

At the number one spot, Samir Iftikhar fell in a close three set match to Soto with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9).

At the number two position, Jadon Phillips fell to Flores with a score of 6-4, 6-4.

At number three singles, Berg faced Gonzalez falling with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

At the number four spot, Riaan Du Toit fell to Omar Aly with a  score of 6-1, 6-2.

At the number five position, Mitch McDaniels had a close second set but his opponent, Stancati, came out on top to win 6-1, 7-5.

At number six singles, Hegelund garnered the only win in singles for the Lobos as he defeated William Albanese with a three set score of 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (10-8).

The Lobos drop to 5-7 overall and will face #58 Texas Tech on their home court tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. MT.
