Men's Tennis Knocks Off Central Florida

SAN DIEGO - The No. 36 San Diego State Men's Tennis team swept doubles play en route to defeating Central Florida, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon at Aztec Tennis Center.

The Aztecs have now won five of their last six dual matches, and climbed 12 spots in the rankings this week from No. 48. SDSU took control early in doubles action, as junior Hunter Nicholas and sophomore Thorsten Bertsch began with a victory over UCF's No. 1 team of Matthew Gladstone and Pedro Wagner, 8-4. Senior Derek Siddiqui and sophomore Andranik Khachatryan followed with an 8-2 win against Amar Hromic and Jorge Blasco to clinch the point, while junior Juan Florez and freshman Marvin Tawasi finished the sweep with an 8-5 decision over Mario Samson and Francesc Aulina.

Bertsch, the reigning Mountain West Player of the Week, earned yet another singles victory on Tuesday, knocking off Hromic, 6-1, 7-6 (2). Nicholas added a win of his own, topping Wagner, 6-2, 6-3, and Florez defeated Gladstone, 6-1, 6-3.

SDSU travels to Santa Barbara, Calif., for two matches this weekend, as the Aztecs take on UCSB on Saturday before facing Utah on Sunday.
