Men's Tennis Finds Success At Pacific Coast Doubles

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team took part in the 123rd Annual Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships this past weekend. Three of SDSU's doubles teams advanced to the round of 32 in the La Jolla tournament.

The duo of Thorsten Bertsch and Derek Siddiqui ultimately dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision in the round of 32 to the eventual champions and No. 1-seeded pair of Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher from Stanford. They, however, found themselves in that position after starting off the tournament with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 win against UCLA's Alex M. Brigham/Marcos Giron as well as a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Leif Berger and Sam Garforth-Bles of Rice in the round of 64.

Hunter Nicholas and Javier Pulgar also made it to the round of 32. After earning a first round bye, the duo defeated Riki McLachlan and Tommie Murphy, 6-2, 6-1. Nicholas and Pulgar then suffered a close 6-7(2), 6-4, 10-2 loss to Sebastian Fanselow and Jenson G. Turner who made it to the semifinals and lost to the championship duo of Klahn and Thacher.

Spencer Simon and former Aztec Giovanni Vaglietti also teamed up and found themselves in the round of 32. They notched a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Billy Grokenberger and Jonathan Raude of Boston College and then defeated the independent duo of Leo Bravo and John Chanfreau, 6-4, 6-1, 10-6.

Andranik Khachatryan and Shiva Sangwan, meanwhile, advanced to the round of 64 after defeating Boston College's Joe Davison and Klaus Puestow by the score of 6-2, 6-2.
