Sept. 15, 2012

MIDLAND, TEXAS – With the second day of the tournament wrapped up, Junior Mads Hegelund proved that he has what it takes to win collegiate matches. He advanced into the quarterfinals of the tournament by defeating the #5 seed of the tournament in three sets.

The Copenhagen, Denmark native defeated his opponent Grant Ive from Tulsa in three sets with a score of 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. He was stopped short in the quarterfinals against TCU’s Arnau Dachs with a score of 7-6, 6-3. His performance today certainly caught Head Coach Alan Dils attention.

“Mads [Hegelund] showed great effort today.  That was the best I have ever seen him play.  If he can play like that the rest of this year, he will be in the lineup and winning lots of matches.”

Sophomore Samir Iftikhar put up a good fight against Texas’ Nick Nauman but fell in close three sets with a score of 6-4, 5-7, 7-6.

In the consolation draw, RS Junior Mitch McDaniels seated Joe Schafer of Davidson with a score of 8-3.

Sophomore James Hignett fell to Wichita State’s Tomislav Gregurovic with a score of 8-4.
