Mitch McDaniels Captures Singles Consolation Draw in Midland, Texas

Sept. 16, 2012

MIDLAND, TEXAS – On the final day of the Midland Invitational, Mitch McDaniels captures the men’s singles consolation bracket defeating Wichita State’s Tomislav Gergurovic with a score of 8-6.

The Tucson, Ariz. native faced Nebraska’s Marc Herman in the semifinals to defeat him in a close set of 9-7. He took on Gergurovic in the finals to win consolation with a score of 8-6.

Head Coach Alan Dils was very pleased with the outcome of the tournament and had this to say about the overall weekend:

“Overall, it was a very good tournament for the Lobos.  We made some noise amongst some very good competition.  All the guys had wins and we beat 3 seeded players.  Mads advanced the furthest reaching the quarterfinals of the 64 player draw.  Mads and Sam's losses were to the two finalists of the tournament and both were very close matches.  I am very proud of the guys.  We beat some very good players and when we did lose, we went down fighting in very tight matches.”
