Lobos Advance Three in Rice Invitational

HOUSTON, TEXAS – After an exciting day of tennis at the Rice Invitational, two singles players and one doubles team will advance into the semifinals of their bracket. The tournament is scheduled to play until Sunday alongside the ITA All-American Championships where seniors Jadon Phillips and Conor Berg will team up in doubles and Phillips will be playing in singles.

In Flight A singles, Mads Hegelund fell in three sets to Rice’s Jonathan Chang with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Hegelund will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Matt Westmoreland.

In Flight B singles, Riaan Du Toit defeated Tulane’s Rodrigo Rapaccioli with a score of 6-4, 6-4. He will face Rice’s Tommy Bennett in the semifinals.

In Flight C singles, Mitch McDaniels fell to Tulane’s Alex Van Cott with a score of 6-4, 6-4. He will face Rice’s Gustavo Gonzalez.

In Flight D singles, James Hignett defeated Tulane’s Adam Bernstein with a score of 6-4, 6-3. He will take on Tulane’s Cedric Rulsaert in the semifinals.

In Flight A doubles, McDaniels and Du Toit teamed up to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Nagy/Bertha falling in a close set of 8-6. They will face Rice’s Chang/Frank in the semifinals of consolation.

In Flight B doubles, Hegelund and Hignett teamed up to face Tulane’s Ohashi/Rutsaert defeating the two with a score of 8-2. They will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Jordao/Pujol in the semifinals.
