Four Lobos Fight For a Chance at Placing in Rice Invitational

HOUSTON, TEXAS – With the second day of the Rice Invitational finished, the Lobos will start the third day with a new sense of urgency as most of the players will be playing for a chance at placing in the tournament.
In Flight A singles, Mads Hegelund will be playing for fifth place as he will face Gabriel Wanderlay of Texas Tech in the consolation draw. Hegelund defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Matt Westmoreland 7-5, 6-1 to advance to the consolation finals.
In Flight B singles, Riaan Du Toit fell in the semifinals falling to Rice’s Tommy Bennett with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
In Flight C singles, Mitch McDaniels will be fighting for the championship title after he defeated Tulane’s Takuma Ohashi with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the semifinals.
In Flight D singles, James Hignett will be competing for the championships title after he defeated Tulane’s Cedric Rutsaert with a score of 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals.
In Flight A doubles, McDaniels and Du Toit fell to Rice’s Chang/Frank with a score of 8-6 in consolation.
In Flight B doubles, Hegelund and Hignett will play for the championship title after they defeated Tulane’s Van Cott/Van Cott with a score of 8-1. They will face Tulane’s Bernstein/Latiner (Unattached) in the finals.
