Doubles Team Playing For Ticket To New York

LAS VEGAS ( - UNLV has a doubles team in Sunday's final of the 2012 USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Championships, which are being held this week at the Darling Tennis Center.

Ace Matias and Bernard Schoeman won twice Saturday to move to within one win of earning a trip to New York. The Rebel duo first downed Victor Ouvrard and Fernando Sungao of Nevada, Reno, 8-3; before upsetting fifth-seeded Andy Bettles and Nathan Sereke of Boise State, 8-6.

Matias and Schoeman, seeded eighth, will now face seventh-seeded Abid Akbar and Marius Cirstea of Idaho in the championship match, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

This is event one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these middle two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions from the regionals will advance to the 2012 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 8-11, at the indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
