Oct. 21, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Bernard Schoeman and Ace Matias lost in the championship match of doubles during the final day of 2012 USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Championships, which were held this week at the Darling Tennis Center.

Schoeman, a senior, and Matias, a sophomore transfer from the University of Utah, fell 8-5 to Idaho's seventh-seeded Abid Akbar and Marius Cirstea, who earned a spot in the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships November 8-11 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

"Bernie and Ace had a great tournament," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "But hats off to Idaho, who were a little better than us today. Overall we had a solid regional performance in both singles and doubles and we are looking forward to our next tournament."

The UNLV men's team will close out its fall schedule by hosting the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Nov. 2-4.
