Men's Tennis Set to Face No. 2 USC

Jan. 23, 2013

SAN DIEGO - The No. 66 SDSU Men's Tennis team hits the road for its first dual match away from home, as the Aztecs will face No. 2 USC in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Friday at 1 p.m. PT at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Aztecs are coming off a week where they earned their first two dual-match victories of the season. SDSU was led by senior Derek Siddiqui and No. 123 Andranik Khachatryan, as the duo went a combined 4-0 in singles play against UC San Diego (W, 7-0) and UC Riverside (W, 7-0). The two also teamed up to help win the doubles point in both matches.

Friday's dual-match will be USC's first of the season. The Trojans finished 2012 with a 33-1 overall record and won the NCAA Championship for the fourth-consecutive season.

San Diego State is looking to avenge a loss to USC last spring, when the Trojans defeated the Aztecs, 7-0, at Marks Stadium. It won't be an easy task, however, as USC currently has seven players ranked. The Trojans are led by junior Ray Sarmiento (No. 10), sophomore Roberto Quiroz (No. 24) and junior Emilio Gomez (No. 27).

The Aztecs will take on either No. 60 Georgia Tech or No. 69 Fresno State on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. PT or 6 p.m. PT. After this weekend, SDSU's next match will be at No. 57 Cal Poly on Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. PT.
