Siddiqui Named MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State Men's Tennis senior Derek Siddiqui (Long Beach, Calif.) was named Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Siddiqui went 3-1 overall last week as the Aztecs lost to No. 2 USC, 0-4, on Jan. 25 and defeated No. 60 Georgia Tech, 4-0, on Jan. 26 in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Playing in the No. 1 singles slot, Siddiqui defeated No. 32 Juan Spir of Georgia Tech in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

In No. 2 doubles play, Siddiqui and sophomore partner Andranik Khachatryan defeated Georgia Tech's Garrett Gordon and Eduardo Segura, 8-7 (2). Siddiqui is 3-1 this season in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action.

Siddiqui was a 2012 all-MW selection in both singles and doubles, and was named MW Player of the Week once last season. He is the first Men's Tennis player to earn the award this season.

No. 64 SDSU is 3-1 this season and hits the road to face No. 57 Cal Poly on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. PT.
