Men's Tennis Travels To UC Irvine On Friday

Feb. 2, 2012

SAN DIEGO - The No. 74 San Diego State men's tennis squad travels to Irvine, Calif., on Friday to play its first road contest of the 2012 dual-match season against No. 47 UC Irvine. The non-conference tilt is set for a 1 p.m. PT start at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The Aztecs are coming off a week where they picked up their first two dual-match wins of the season. SDSU was led by Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Javier Pulgar, who went a combined 3-1 in SDSU's victories against then-No. 47 Cal Poly (W, 5-2) and UC Riverside (W, 7-0).

The Anteaters, meanwhile, are 1-3 after dropping three matches against ranked opponents. UCI's only win is against SDSU's Mountain West foe UNLV as the Anteaters earned a 6-1 win against the Rebels.

San Diego State is looking to avenge last season's 6-1 loss at the hands of UC Irvine in a match contested at Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU won the doubles point, but struggled in singles and dropped the match.

After the trip to Irvine, the Aztecs will travel to Los Angeles on Feb. 9 as they face off against No. 9 UCLA. The match is set for a 2 p.m. PT start at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
