Frogs Return Home To Host Texas Tech, Santa Clara This Weekend

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will return home to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center this weekend to host Texas Tech (Feb. 11) and Santa Clara (Feb. 12) on the Bernard “Tut” Bartzen Varsity Courts.
Saturday’s match against the Red Raiders will feature pre-match festivities that include live music from Andrew Sullivan and free tacos courtesy of Salsa Limon, starting at Noon. First serve for the match is set for 1 p.m. As always, admission is free to all TCU tennis matches. Sunday’s showdown with the Broncos will feature a bounce house and face painter with the match beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The Horned Frogs (2-3) will be making their first appearance in Fort Worth since earning a 4-2 win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the home opener on Jan. 25. TCU rides into the weekend after earning a 4-3 road victory at Alabama on Feb. 5. Freshman Facundo Lugones has won his last two singles matches.
TTU (4-2) climbed two spots to become the No. 22 team in the country in the latest Campbell’s/ITA Team Rankings after picking up a 4-3 win over No. 25 San Diego on Feb. 4. The Red Raiders’ eight-man roster includes seven upperclassmen, highlighted by senior Gonzalo Escobar, who is currently listed as the No. 23 singles player in the nation.
No. 49 Santa Clara comes into the weekend with a 3-2 record and will battle SMU Friday before heading into the match with TCU Sunday. The Broncos jumpstarted the 2012 season with three straight wins over UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis and Boise State, before dropping their last two matches against Stanford and Fresno State.
