Chappell Earns Mountain West Weekly Honor

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU men’s tennis player Nick Chappell has been named Co-Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. The freshman shared the honor with San Diego State’s Thorsten Bertsch.
Chappell went undefeated for the weekend against Texas Tech and Santa Clara, going 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles play. The Indianapolis, Ind., product teamed up with his older brother, Paul Chappell, to clinch the doubles point against the Red Raiders, claiming a thrilling 9-8 (5) decision from the middle court. Chappell followed by taking down TTU’s Raony Carvalho with 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in singles. He returned to action Sunday and collected a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 win at the top position against SCU’s Kyle Dandan.
The honor is the first for Chappell in his career and the first for TCU this season.
The Frogs will resume the three-match homestand this weekend, hosting Wichita State Saturday at the Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
