Feb. 17, 2012

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will conclude a three-match home swing at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center this weekend, welcoming Wichita State Saturday on the Bernard “Tut” Bartzen Varsity Courts.

First serve for the match is set for 1 p.m. As always, admission is free to all TCU tennis matches and free pizza, courtesy of Pizza Inn and Pie Five Pizza Co., will be served between doubles and singles, while supplies last. Saturday’s match against the Shockers will also feature free tacos courtesy of Salsa Limon.

The Horned Frogs (2-5), currently ranked No. 44 in the Campbell’s/ITA College Team Tennis Rankings, will look to bounce back this weekend after a pair of tough losses to Texas Tech and Santa Clara. After claiming the doubles point in both matches a week ago, TCU’s main focus will be on getting off to a strong start in singles. Freshman Nick Chappell was recently named the Mountain West Co-Player of the Week, enjoying a 3-0 combined record against the Red Raiders and Broncos.

WSU (2-2) will come into Saturday’s match after taking on UT-Arlington Friday night. The Shockers are 0-2 on the road this spring, dropping matches to No. 18 Oklahoma and No. 23 Tulsa. WSU picked up a pair of wins against UT-San Antonio (Jan. 27) and Air Force (Jan. 29). Junior Matheus Pereira has been a strong player for the Shockers, boasting a 3-1 ledger from the top position in singles. The doubles tandem of Pereira and David Calvalcanti is listed at No. 31 in the country in the most recent ITA rankings.
