TCU Travels To Arlington For Tuesday Showdown With Mavs

Feb. 21, 2012

The TCU men's tennis team will travel across town for a mid-week match against UT-Arlington Tuesday at the UTA Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.

The Horned Frogs (3-5) picked up a 6-1 victory against Wichita State Saturday, taking the doubles point and winning five singles matches. Four of the five singles wins came from TCU freshmen. Newcomer Nick Chappell moved to 5-1 overall this spring from the top position, while Blake Wiggins and Will Stein added their first career dual-match singles wins.

UTA (2-3) enters Tuesday’s match after losing a pair of matches to Wichita State and Baylor last week. The Mavericks got off to a good start by winning the doubles point against the Bears, but went on to fall, 6-1. Both of UTA’s wins came at home in a doubleheader against Centenary College and Cameron on Feb. 10.

TCU holds an 18-1 advantage in the all-time series against UTA, boasting wins in the last 12 meetings. The Frogs opened the 2011 season with a 6-1 victory against UTA. The only Maverick win came by a 4-3 decision in the spring of 1999.
