Lugones Named Mountain West Player of the Week

March 1, 2012

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU men’s tennis player Facundo Lugones has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Thursday.

A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lugones went 2-0 as TCU split a pair of road matches at UT-Arlington (W, 5-2) and No. 12 Texas A&M (L, 1-6) last week. Lugones got TCU off to a strong start in singles action against the Mavericks, notching a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Nicholas Moreno at the No. 4 position. He was also the brightest spot for the Horned Frogs in Friday’s loss at TAMU, scratching out a 6-2, 0-6, 7-6 (6) win while playing at the No. 3 singles position for the first time in his career. The freshman has now won three-consecutive singles matches and owns a 5-3 record this spring.

The weekly honor is the first for Lugones in his career and the third for TCU this season. Freshman Nick Chappell claimed the honor on Feb. 15 for his performance against Texas Tech and Santa Clara, while senior Daniel Sanchez was recognized on Feb. 22 for his efforts against Wichita State.

TCU will return to Fort Worth to host Arizona on March 2 the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
