TCU Set To Host Arizona Under The Lights Friday

March 2, 2012

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team returns home to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center Friday to host Arizona at 5:30 p.m.

Friday’s match is UTSA Ladies Night. All ladies who participate in USTA leagues are encouraged to attend and have a chance to win raffle prizes and a chance to play with the TCU men’s tennis team. As always, admission is free to all TCU tennis matches and there will be free pizza, while supplies last, courtesy of Pizza Inn and Pie Five Pizza Company. There will also be live music from Andrew Sullivan and free chair massages from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

The Horned Frogs (4-6) have had the week to regroup from a 6-1 defeat at Texas A&M on Feb. 24. The seven-day stretch between matches is the longest break for TCU since the dual match season began in January. Freshman Facundo Lugones was recently named Mountain West Tennis Player of the Week for his efforts against the Aggies and UT-Arlington. The Frogs have enjoyed the league honor for three-consecutive weeks, as newcomer Nick Chappell (Feb. 15) and senior Daniel Sanchez (Feb. 22) have also been recognized.

Arizona (3-5) has hit a rough patch in the schedule, dropping five-straight matches. The Wildcats stormed out of the gates to start the semester with a 3-0 record against Northern Arizona, Sacramento State and San Francisco.

The all-time series between TCU and Arizona is tied at 1-1 overall with Friday’s match serving as the first meeting since 1984. The Frogs claimed the only match played in Fort Worth, taking a 5-4 decision in 1981.
