March 12, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will enjoy the first match in over a week, hosting Columbia Tuesday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
The Horned Frogs (5-7) haven’t had to take the court since suffering a 7-0 shutout at the hands of No. 8 Texas in Austin on March 4. TCU is 1-1 in March after leading off the month with a 5-2 victory over Arizona. The doubles team of Daniel Sanchez and Max Stevens has been on a roll as of late, coming into Tuesday’s match with back-to-back wins and boasting a 6-1 overall record this spring. Newcomer Nick Chappell paces the squad with a 7-3 singles ledger for the semester, followed by freshman Facundo Lugones with six wins.
Columbia (8-2) rolls into Fort Worth Tuesday riding a four-match win streak, bragging about wins over the likes of Yale, Farleigh Dickinson, Army and Seminole State. The Lions are making their annual spring break swing through the Metroplex, taking on TCU, SMU (March 14) and UT Arlington (March 16). Freshman Winston Lin has been a challenge from the top spot in singles, collecting a 5-1 clip on his way to being 8-1 overall. Columbia has five singles players with at least five wins this spring. The pairing of Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur leads the program in doubles action, going 8-1 overall.
Tuesday’s match will serve as the fifth-straight meeting between the Frogs and Lions. TCU owns a 3-1 lead in the all-time series, including a 6-1 decision in 2011.
As always, admission is free to all TCU tennis matches and there will be free pizza, while supplies last, courtesy of Pizza Inn and Pie Five Pizza Company.
