Men's Tennis Plays Host To San Diego Spring Classic

March 13, 2012

SAN DIEGO - The No. 51 San Diego State men's tennis team returns home this weekend as it hosts the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic from March 15-17. The Aztecs will be looking to pick up their eighth win of the 2012 dual-match season when they face off against Pacific in the first round at 2 p.m. PT on Thursday at the Aztec Tennis Center.

SDSU is coming off a week where it earned consecutive victories on the road in Tucson, Ariz., while also having No. 96 Javier Pulgar move into the men's ITA national singles rankings for the first time this season. The Aztecs picked up two convincing 5-2 wins against Arizona and New Mexico State to improve to 7-3 on the year.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are 4-7 on the season and are coming of a 5-2 loss to Brigham Young. Pacific dropped the doubles point, but earned wins at number three and four singles.

San Diego State holds an 8-3 advantage in the all-time series against the Tigers and has won five of the last seven meetings. Pacific's last victory against the Aztecs, a 4-3 triumph, came in 2004 when the teams last met.

After its clash with Pacific, SDSU will continue play in the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic. If the Aztecs win their first match, they'll play the rest of their matches at USD. If they lose, they'll play the rest at SDSU.
