'Dogs Host Big Ten Opponent

FRESNO, Calif. ---The Fresno State men's tennis team hosts its second consecutive Big Ten opponent Friday afternoon as the 'Dogs face the Iowa Hawkeyes at 1 p.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

About the Hawkeyes
Iowa (6-6) enters Friday's match having lost five straight (not including match versus Pacific on 3/21) including a 7-0 loss to USF to begin thier California road trip. The Hawkeyes are led by Junior Jonas Dierckx and sophomore Matt Hagan who own a doubles record of 9-2.

The 'Dogs and Hawkeyes have only met twice all-time, splitting the matchups that came in 1984 & 85. Each match was a 5-4 decision with the first meeting going to Iowa in `84 and the second in favor of Fresno State in `85.

Last Time Out
Fresno State is coming off of an eight day break with no matches after playing three matches in five days at the Wathen Tennis Center. The 'Dogs topped Hawai'i in the first match, then dropped two close matches to Washington and Purdue.

Fritz on Fire
Freshman Felipe Fritz has been a hot spot in the Bulldogs lineup as he has won five straight singles matches. Three of the wins have come in three sets and he has played and won all three sets that have come down to tiebreakers. Against Purdue, Fritz made his first appearance in the top half of the line up at No. 3 where he won a very tight match 7-5, 6-4.
