FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will begin the second half of a four-match homestand Sunday, hosting future Big 12 Conference foe No. 25 Oklahoma at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
As always, admission is free to all TCU tennis matches and there will be free pizza, while supplies last, courtesy of Pizza Inn and Pie Five Pizza Company. Sunday's match is "Country Club Day". All fans in attendance will have a chance to win individual and group tennis lessons from Fort Worth Country Clubs including Colonial, Mira Vista, Ridglea, Rivercrest and Shady Oaks. There will be prizes for adult and kids and fans do not have to be a member of these clubs to participate.
The Horned Frogs (5-9) come into the match on a nine-day layoff since dropping a close 4-3 decision to No. 23 Tulsa on March 16. Freshman Nick Chappell earned the highest-ranked singles win of his short collegiate career, taking down the Golden Hurricane’s No. 67 Japie De Klerk in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Chappell leads the Frogs with a 9-3 singles ledger this spring, while newcomer Facundo Lugones follows with six victories.
Oklahoma (8-3) is currently the No. 25 team in the country, according to the most recent Campbell’s/ITA College Team Rankings. The Sooners are amidst an eight-match road swing that includes matches in five different states. OU has four players listed in the singles top-125: Costin Paval (No. 15), Peerakit Siributwong (No. 67), Dane Webb (No. 78) and Tsvetan Mihov (No. 103). Webb and Paval also team up to create the No. 18 doubles tandem in the country, followed by Mihov and Siributwong at No. 68.
TCU holds a 9-5 advantage in the all-time series with OU, including a 6-4 mark in spring meetings. The first meeting between the two programs came in 1976. TCU and Oklahoma rekindled the rivalry in 2008, playing for the first time since 1990.
