COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Boise State’s Nathan Sereke has been selected as the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while San Diego State’s Julia Wais and UNLV’s Lucia Batta have been named MW Co-Women’s Tennis Players of the Week.

A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Sereke helped 30th-ranked Boise State secure victories over No. 48 San Diego State (W, 6-1) and No. 26 Fresno State (W, 4-3), respectively. Sereke began the week by downing San Diego State’s Hunter Nicholas, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 4 singles position last Thursday. He went on to clinch the match against Fresno State on Saturday, helping the Broncos to a narrow dual match victory after securing a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Bulldogs’ David Ayoun at the fourth singles spot.

Wais, a product of Goeppingen, Germany, went 4-0 last week while competing at the top of the singles and doubles lineup for the Aztecs. Against No. 45 TCU, the senior paired with Alicia Aguilar to post a doubles victory over Kelsey Sundaram and Federica Denti, 9-7, at the No. 2 position. Later, Wais followed her winning performance with a singles win, downing the Horned Frogs’ 67th-ranked Stefanie Tan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, at the top of the singles lineup. The next day against New Mexico, Wais duplicated her effort as she and Aguilar notched an 8-3 win over Michael Oldani and Kristin Eggleston at the No. 2 position. Then in singles, Wais picked up a 7-6, 7-5 victory at the No. 1 position.

Batta, hailing from Budapest, Hungary, started her week by nearly knocking off the nation’s fourth-ranked player, falling by just two points in a third-set super-tiebreaker to Stanford’s Mallary Burdette, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) last Wednesday. She went on to down two consecutive Mountain West No. 1 singles players, defeating New Mexico’s Michaela Bezdickova (6-4, 6-7, 6-3) last Saturday, before securing a 6-3, 6-0 decision over TCU’s 67th-ranked Stefanie Tan on Sunday.
