Men's Tennis Plays Host to No. 56 Santa Clara

SAN DIEGO - The No. 43 San Diego State Men's Tennis team plays host to No. 56 Santa Clara on Friday, beginning at 3 p.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center.

The Aztecs are coming off a home loss to USD on Wednesday, 7-0, as SDSU was swept in a complete dual match for the first time this season. Sophomore Thorsten Bertsch played in the No. 1 singles slot for the second time this season, battling Thibaut Visy in a long match before eventually losing, 3-6, 7-6 (8), 9-11. Bertsch is now 13-4 overall this season in singles action, but 0-2 in No. 1 singles play.

SDSU made changes to its No. 1 and 2 doubles teams on Wednesday, pairing junior Hunter Nicholas and sophomore Andranik Khachatryan in the No. 1 slot, while Bertsch with senior Derek Siddiqui played together at No. 2. Previously, Siddiqui and Khachatryan were 9-5 this season in No. 2 doubles play, and Bertsch and Nicholas were 6-10 in the No. 1 spot.

Santa Clara (13-7, 1-3 WCC) is coming off a home loss to Pepperdine, 4-2, on March 30, and is 3-3 in its last six matches. The Broncos are led by No. 63 John Lamble.
