TCU Opens Mountain West Play At UNLV and San Diego State

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team will hit the road for the first time in over a month to open Mountain West play at UNLV (April 6) and San Diego State (April 8) this weekend.

The Horned Frogs will look to get back into the win column after suffering a tough 4-3 loss to No. 42 Rice on April 1. TCU’s last road match came at No. 8 Texas on March 4. The Purple and White are led by newcomer Nick Chappell as the Indianapolis, Ind., native owns a 9-5 singles record from the top spot and is currently ranked No. 114 in the latest Campbell’s/ITA College Tennis rankings.

UNLV (7-10, 1-0 MW) comes into Friday’s match after picking up a pair of losses to Denver and Rice. The Rebels opened their MW schedule with a 4-3 win at Air Force on March 3. Sophomore Willie Sublette is the lone UNLV player to boast a winning singles record this spring with a combined ledger of 6-4 from the bottom two positions in the lineup.

The Frogs own a 9-1 record against UNLV in the all-time series, including victories in the last four meetings. TCU will be making its first appearance at the Fertitta Tennis Complex since winning the Mountain West tournament crown in Las Vegas in 2010. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT.

San Diego State (11-6, 1-1 MW) enters the weekend ranked No. 58 in the most recent Campbell’s/ITA National Team Rankings. The Aztecs have two league matches under their belt, defeating Air Force by the score of 4-3 on March 25, while dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 37 Boise State on March 29. Senior Javier Pulgar leads SDSU in singles, boasting the No. 104 ranking in the country.

TCU has enjoyed an 8-3 ledger in the all-time series with SDSU. The Frogs have wins in the last two meetings, but dropped a 4-3 score the last time at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Purple and White will return to San Diego at the end of the semester as SDSU will host the 2012 MW championships, April 26-29.
