Men's Tennis to Face Air Force on Friday

SAN DIEGO - The No. 42 San Diego State Men's Tennis team resumes Mountain West Conference play on Friday, April 12, as the Aztecs play host to Air Force, beginning at 2 p.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center.
SDSU (15-7, 3-0 MW) is coming off a victory over UC Irvine, 5-2, on Wednesday, and will finish the dual-match season with three consecutive conference matches. The Aztecs play host to No. 61 New Mexico on Sunday, April 14, and travel to Reno, Nev., on Tuesday, April 23, to face Nevada.
Sophomore Thorsten Bertsch (Mannheim, Germany) is 15-4 overall this season in singles play, and has been on a tear in recent weeks. Bertsch, ranked No. 108 in the nation, has won two-straight singles matches and eight of his last nine. The sophomore has also gone 2-1 since being promoted to the No. 1 singles slot on April 3, winning each of his last two matches in straight sets. In addition, Bertsch has won his last two doubles matches partnered with senior Derek Siddiqui in the No. 2 spot.
Meanwhile, Junior Hunter Nicholas (Park City, Utah) is 13-7 in No. 3 singles action this dual season, and has won six of his last nine. Nicholas is currently riding a two-match winning streak. Junior Juan Florez (Bogota, Columbia) has also won two straight, and is 10-8 in the No. 5 singles slot this season, including 6-4 in his last 10 matches.
Air Force is 10-9 overall this season and 0-3 in MW play. The Falcons have lost two-straight matches, and are coming off a home loss to UNLV, 7-0, on April 7. Senior Lance Wilhelm is ranked No. 86 in singles play, and is 12-5 this dual season in the No. 1 slot.
