COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Boise State senior Damian Hume has been selected as the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while TCU sophomore Millie Nichols has been named MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Hume, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, went a combined 3-1 last week as 31st-ranked Boise State posted victories over TCU (W, 5-2) and 61st-ranked New Mexico (W, 5-2), respectively. Hume picked up two singles wins during the Broncos’ road trip to Fort Worth, Texas and Albuquerque, N.M. Positioned at the second singles position, the senior defeated JT Sundling of TCU on Friday in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-2), after teaming with Scott Sears to down the Horned Frogs’ No. 2 doubles tandem of Nick Chappell and Will Stein, 9-8 (7-3), to start the Conference dual. In Sunday’s match against the Lobos, Hume rebounded from a first-set loss to defeat New Mexico’s Ben Dunbar, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Nichols, a product of Amarillo, Texas, went a combined 4-0 last weekend to help 35th-ranked TCU secure victories over New Mexico (W, 6-1) and 40th-ranked Rice (W, 4-3), respectively. Against the Lobos, Nichols paired with Olivia Smith to post a victory over Michaela Bezdickova and Maria Sablina, 8-5, at the top of the doubles lineup. Later, Nicholas followed her winning performance with a singles victory, downing New Mexico’s Kristin Eggleston, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot. The next day against Owls, Nichols and Smith notched a victory over the 33rd-ranked doubles duo of Natalie Beazant and Dominique Harmath, 8-4, at the No. 1 position. Then in singles, Nichols moved to the No. 5 spot in the lineup, defeating Rice’s Kimberly Anicete, 6-0, 6-2, to help the Horned Frogs pull out a narrow 4-3 dual victory.
