April 23, 2012
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team has earned the No. 2 seed for the Mountain West Championship, which runs April 27 through 29 at the Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU received a bye into the semifinals and will face off with the winner of the New Mexico/Air Force match at 10 a.m. PT on Saturday.
The Aztecs finished their league campaign in second place behind MW regular-season champion and No. 31 Boise State whose perfect 5-0 conference mark earned them the No. 1 seed. No. 67 New Mexico is the third seed, while TCU captured the No. 4 seed. UNLV and Air Force round out the bracket as the fifth and sixth-seeded teams, respectively.
Quarterfinal action begins Friday, April 27, at 10 a.m. PT with two matchups, No. 4 TCU vs. No. 5 UNLV and No. 3 New Mexico vs. No. 6 Air Force. The top-seeded Broncos also received a bye and will square off with the winner of the TCU/UNLV match in the semifinals at 10 a.m. PT on Saturday, April 28. The championship will then be held on Sunday, April 29, at 10 a.m. PT.
San Diego State has defeated both the Lobos and Falcons in regular season action. The Aztecs earned a 4-3 victory against Air Force on March 25 in Colorado Springs, Colo., and SDSU defeated New Mexico, 4-3, earlier this month at the Aztec Tennis Center.
