COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ---The Fresno State men's tennis team is set to participate in its first-ever Mountain West Tennis Championship this week at the USAFA Tennis Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Bulldogs earned the No. 5 seed entering the tournament and will face No. 4 seed New Mexico on Thursday, Apr. 25 at 10 a.m. MT.

About the Competition
New Mexico (12-12) wrapped up the regular season last weekend with a 6-1 win over Air Force. The win moved the Lobos to 3-3 in the Mountain West and into a lock for the No. 4 seed in the tournament. UNM's three conference losses came against SDSU, Boise State and UNLV. Senior Jadon Phillips leads the Lobos with 14 dual match singles victories. Phillips has won four consecutive matches.

This will be the 18th meeting between the Bulldogs and Lobos with Fresno State leading the all-time series 12-5. The teams met this month in Albuquerque with UNM besting the 'Dogs 7-0. The Lobos won a close doubles point and three, three-set singles matches to claim the sweep.

The Regular Season
With a revamped lineup and new head coach, the Bulldogs have had their fair share of up and downs this season. To begin the spring season, Coach Austin added two new faces to the team to add to the four 'Dogs that he had in the fall. Fresno State faced top competition out of conference, playing seven nationally ranked schools. The best non-conference win came in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend as the 'Dogs beat No. 60 Georgia Tech 4-3. Moving into conference play, the team faced top seeded San Diego State early dropping the contest 4-2. The program's first-ever MW win came against Nevada on the last day of March which was followed by another 4-3 win over Air Force. Rounding out the regular season, Fresno State dropped its' last three conference matches to three of the top four teams in the conference.

Fritz on Fire
Freshman Felipe Fritz has been a hot spot in the Bulldogs lineup as he had the longest winning streak of the year with seven consecutive wins. Three of the wins came in three sets and within the streak he moved up from the fifth to the second spot in the lineup. In his most recent win in which he clinched the match for Fresno State over Air Force at No. 1 for his first career win at the top spot, Fritz defeated the No. 75-ranked player in the ITA rankings in three extremely close sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

One Shy of Double Digits
Sophomore Reid deLaubenfels has anchored the top half of the lineup the entire year and is one win shy of ten on the year in singles. During his freshman campaign, he recorded a total of 14 singles wins which he has already surpassed with his 16 total singles wins this year.
